My visit to UC Berkeley and UC Davis Decision Day

Tumblr Source: florishing
Hello!
Finally a post that's going up the same day that I write it!

So last week I visited both Berkeley and Davis.  We had initially planned to visit Davis on Friday and Saturday since Saturday was Decision Day and I wanted to tour the campus when students were there.  But then I got into Berkeley, so we decided to add on to the trip since we were already going up north.
walking around campus and I thought this was all really pretty

We visited Berkeley on Thursday attended an admitted students presentation and took a tour.  We also walked around Berkeley a little bit and ate at one of the dinning halls.  I also had to stop by at the student store to get a jacket for my friend.

lunch at Crossroads Dinning Common- Tofu Vermicelli Bowl
And then we left Berkeley and headed up to Davis.

accidentally took a picture of the grass at Davis (ft. my shoe)
We first got dinner in Downtown Davis at Dumpling House, and the dumplings were so good you guys, highly recommend.  And then we met up with my friend that currently attends Davis, and she gave me a tour of her dorm and we talked for a bit.  The next day we took a tour of the campus, and attempted to find at the class that I had made arrangements to sit in.  Unfortunately I was never given a room number for the class so I never ended up going: however, I did run into one of my former classmates in that building.  We then went to the CoHo(student run coffeehouse) and I got black bean tacos and boba.  We went to decision day the following day and headed back home.

I thought this was funny
I ended up really liking Berkeley, it felt a lot different from the last time I was there since it wasn't close to a holiday.  I had remembered Davis being a little more urban than it was, so I think I'm going to go to Berkeley.  Of course, other considerations have been taken, and I will let you all know when I commit.

Cheers!

So What Now?

Hi.

Oops I haven't posted for like a month.  Note on the last post I meant to post it awhile ago but I forgot, my bad.

So, I have also been admitted to UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley, and University of Michigan- Ann Arbour.  So I miraculously go into all the schools I applied to, who would have thought.  I am extremely grateful for this situation and I am still in shock.

So what now?  It's come down to UCLA and UC Berkeley(yes I changed my mind).  I have been leaning towards Berkeley for awhile now, so I think I might go to Berkeley!

I'll let you all now when I submit my SIR and commit!  And then this whirlwind journey will finally end.  Well unless I decide to document my adventures in college as well, hmm I'll take note of that.

Cheers!

Hello!

So in my last post I mentioned that I was anxiously waiting for UCLA decisions to come out, and although they did not come out at exactly 5, they came out very soon after.

And I am excited to share that I have been admitted to UCLA, which is crazy.  And although I did record my reaction of this, it's really embarassing so I might not release it.  Half of it is me trying to figure out how to log into the portal!

My mother has been the most supportive through this whole process.  In November when I was submitting applications she considered not allowing me to apply to schools like UCLA, UC San Diego, and Berkely because she thought I had no chance of getting in.  And although the later does not release decisions until Thursday, I got into both of the former(is that even proper English?).  When I revealed to my mother that I had been accepted to UC San Diego she was shocked.  And when I told her that I had been accepted to UCLA she told my that their admission policies and procedures must have changed.  #supportive

So now my list has increased, as of right now I am considering UC Davis, UC San Diego, and UCLA.

I will be visting all three on their according admitted student days, and then will shortly after making my decision, hopefully.

Cheers!

Hello there!

So this is going to be a really short, quick post because UCLA decisions might come out in T minus 3 minutes.

I have also been accepted into Irvine which is really exciting!

Best of luck to everyone out there waiting for college decisions!

Excitement bundled up in joy

Hello!

On Friday I received great news, I got into two schools!  Here's the story...

It was pouring(very rare in LA), and I had heard the day before that San Diego Decisions were rumored to come out that day, along with Davis(which was confirmed).  I had also heard speculations that Davis was going to update all of their portals at 2:24 or 3 PST.  So, of course I checked my portal exactly at 2:45 to nothing.  Mind you prior to this I had realized that I had forgotten my passphrase for the Davis portal, and had frantically created a new passphrase during a lunch meeting.

I forced myself to wait until 3 to check again, and to no avail, the portal just said pending.  I had a meeting after school, for a club I was leaving(because my term had ended, and the season started early), and as soon as I walked into that classroom I frantically tried to check my portal.  Unfortunately I only had 4G, and 4G on my phone is very bad.  So like a crazy person I stamped around the room waiting for the portal to load, while intermittently asking if anyone had LTE on their phone.  When I finally got the page to load I saw that I was admitted and I started to both scream and jump up and down all over the place, while everyone else looked at me like I was crazy, which maybe I am.

So, I got into UC Davis!  And I was also invited to participate in their University Honors Program.

After I gave my farewell address, I had a ton of free time, so I decided to look on College Confidential to see if San Diego decisions had indeed come out.  And they did!  So i frantically tried to log into my portal, unfortunately a bad connection mixed with a site that's about to crash is not a good combination.  After multiple attempts of logging in and reloads, I loudly gasped as I read that I had gotten in.  My reaction was more understandably not as extravagant given the situations.  I was sitting in a desk, and I had ten minutes prior to this learned that I had been accepted into Davis.  Compared to my frantic pacing into an out of the classroom when I saw my UC Davis decision.

So yeah, I got into UC San Diego!
Also both of my parents were so surprised when they heard that I got into UC San Diego, note they totally did not think that I had any chance at UC San Diego.

So yeah, Friday was a good day for me.  But now I am so conflicted!  Davis and San Diego are both high up on my list for preferred colleges, and at this point are about equal.  There's a high chance that my decision will most likely come down to those two colleges(of course I really won't know until I hear back from all of my colleges).  And I will not be certain until I hear back from the rest of my colleges(other UC's and UMich).  Anyways I am planning trips to both campuses, most notably Davis, since San Diego is only a 2-hour drive from where I am.  I definitely want to visit both before I make my final decisions, which is a REALLY big decision, just like the bee that Emily(one of the twins from the current season of the Bachelor(Ben)) saw was a REALLY yellow bee, this is a REALLY big decision, that will really affect my life in such a huge way, which is so crazy to think about.

Anyways, congrats to everyone that was also admitted to UC Davis and San Diego! And if you were waitlisted or denied just know that you are not defined by what schools you get into, rather by your character and treatment of others.

Cheers!

DIY Smoothie Bowl!

first attempt at making a smoothie bowl
Hello!

This afternoon I really felt like making a smoothie bowl, and since my mother had accidentally bought kale at the store I decided to go for it.  So I whipped out the food processor and experimented until I came up with what you see above.  It actually turned out really well, and I really enjoyed it.  I tried to compile a recipe so here you go, adjust as needed.

Kale Mango Smoothie Bowl Base
About 1 1/2 cups frozen mangoes
Handful of Kale(everyone has their own preference for the ratio of kale)
1/4 cup water(adjust accordingly)

Extras
Frozen Peaches
Frozen Pineapple

Toppings
Sliced Banana
Granola(I used the Trader Joe's Vanilla Almond Granola)

Directions:
~Place frozen mangoes, peaches, and pineapple(if desired) into a food processor or blender and top with kale.
~Blend/process until all components have been incorporated.
~When you reach a mealy stage, you can stir the mixture with a spoon and add a little bit of water to aid the blending process.  If you want more of a sorbet add less water, for more of a smoothie add more water.  I prefer my smoothie bowls to be more of a sorbet texture, so I added about a 1/4 cup of water to help the food processor mix everything.
~When you have reached your desired consistency place the mixture in a bowl, and top as desired.  I didn't have a lot of things in my pantry so  just topped mine with some sliced bananas and granola, but you can top with whatever you like, I recommend almonds, chia seeds, berries, anything that provides a nice texture.
~Snap a picture of your creation and enjoy!

Cheers!

Acceptances?!?

Tumblr Source: studydiaryofamedstudent

Hello!

Long time no see.  Well, a lot of time has passed since I last posted about my "college journey", and i have good news!

I got into two schools!  Hooray I'm going to go to college! Weeeee!

I got my first college acceptance IN THE MAIL on February 1st!
I was so excited I literally started jumping up and down.

I got my second acceptance by email, but it said congratulations on the subject line, and that I had been accepted in the little sneak peek of the email, so that was pretty uneventful.

And now I wait for the UC's, I believe the first UC that I should be hearing from is UC Davis because acceptances are supposed to come out on the 11th, so fingers crossed!

Cheers!
