More Info: Clean Eating Challenge

Happy day one of the clean eating challenge!

As promised I have some more tips and a little bit of info for you today!

Firstly, just a reminder that today is the start of the challenge! Are you with me?
Also remember this is not a diet.  Do not starve yourself, but do not stuff yourself.

The only difference between this challenge and any other week is that if you occasionally indulge, indulge in something else this week, like nice cream, and ace bowl, or whole grain toast with nut butter and/or jam. has a good list of options for meals and snacks.  There's also other helpful tips there as well.

A challenge is meant to be challenging, but think of how proud you will be afterwards.  Also how beneficial this is to your mind, body, and soul.

The Clean Eating Challenge

I remembered reading an article on a magazine editor living like a Victoria's Secret model a while ago, its pretty interesting check it out here, and I recalled her talking about Sakura Life, a meal service that Lily Aldrige uses.  She raved about the food, so I decided to visit their website today.  I viewed their food and a sample menu, as well as a little bit of their story.  Everything sounded so delicious and wholesome.  I then checked the price, and calculated that a lunch meal would cost about $26.  But I was inspired by a challenge that they had, eating Sakura for four weeks, which inspired me to create a challenge that doesn't require you to shell out a thousand bucks(literally).

Hence the Clean Eating Challenge!

Basically a (technically)five-day challenge to jumpstart a healthy lifestyle.  Here's the guidelines:

Eat as clean and healthily as possible.  Do not think of it as giving up things, rather than treating your body better.
And that's it!  Don't worry I have some tips and pointers.

This is a lifestyle change so gradual is good; however, challenges are fun and accomplishments are amazing.  Plus you won't be giving up anything.  I'll post throughout the week with daily inspo and ideas.

I have started to eat healthier, and addition to noticing some positive physical changes in my body, I also feel healthier and more energized!  I don't crave junk anymore(which is so hard to believe, but trust me after a week or so, the cravings just like disappear).

My Tips and Pointers:

I always used to love having eggs and pan-fried toast, but I did not like the groggy feeling I had after consuming all that oil.  Now I love oatmeal with sliced banana, almonds, and a drizzle of honey(and blueberries if we have any).  I love how it is so aesthetically pleasing, it tastes absolutely amazing, and it fills me up and keeps me full.  It also takes less time to prepare!

More Breakfast options/ideas:
Smoothie Bowls
Fresh Fruit and Nut Butter
Whole-Grain Breads with Nut Butter or/and Jam

I used to eat pita chips, hummus, and dry-roasted almonds.  Then I moved to rice with seaweed, and then tamogoyaki and veggies.  I now like to get Trader Joe's salads, split them in half and pack them for school(I'm really small, and do not eat much, half a salad is like perfect for me).  Try to eat lots of veggies and fresh fruit for lunch.

Other ideas/options:
spinach flatbread with roasted seasonal veggies
steamed broccoli, zucchini, and carrots and legume or meat
veggie starry with tofu
salads with a variety of vegetables and lots of other things

I still live with my parents so I eat whatever I'm feed.  But if I am still hungry I try to eat more vegetables rather than rice or noodles.

If you are cooking for yourself:
Be mindful.  Try to refrain from frying, and try to eat lots of vegetables!

I used to pack either nothing or like cookies.  Now I try to pack fresh fruit.  I have recently discovered that I love apples and peanut butter.  So I eat that a lot.  As for dessert, I used to eat dessert just to eat dessert, now I only eat it if I'm still hungry.  I love nice cream!  I have recently experimented with nice cream I like to through frozen bananas, berries, and mangoes into the food processor.  It's seriously life changing.  I'll make a post on it later in the week.

Reflections on 2015

I realized that I never reflected on 2015, so I am going to do so now.  These are always fun to look at and reminensce at what we've accomplished and done every year.  I wish for a happy and prosperous 2016.

January: I remember that last year I told myself that I was going to eat healthy until Easter, and not eat anything unhealthy until Easter.  And of course I failed, that mentality does not work.  This year I am trying to be more realistic.  In January I competed in the regional Academic Decathlon after school resumed.

February: I finished competing in the regional Acadeca competition and I won a bronze medal in Interview! (What? What?)

March: I remember waiting for Spring Break to come because I felt like I was dying in school.  I also left for China!

April: I visted Beijing, China with my best friend and mandarin classmates.  I had so much fun in China and will treasure and remember those experiences forever.  Maybe I should do a blog post on China.  I competed(in figure skating) in La Jolla.  I also started studying for AP exams.

May: AP tests rolled around, and I remember freaking out, but being so proud of myself when they were all over.

June: I got through finals pretty well.  And was forced to go to Yellowstone, post on that here.

July: I relaxed and basked in the carefree summer break life.  I also decided to dedicate time to my blog.  I gave my blog a little makeover.  I decided to be a daily blogger(for a short while).

August: I traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to compete in National Showcase.  I visited the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor and decided to apply there.  I also started college applications and school.  I stopped blogging.

September: I went along with school, and struggled with having four AP classes for the first time, and AP physics.

October: I worked more on college apps, and relaunched(unsuccessfully) my blog(again).

November: I worked even more on college apps and turned most of them in.  Thanksgiving break was way too short for the amount of homework that I got.

December: I took finals and then Christmas came!  I love the holidays and I love christmas music, check out my favorite playlist.

I'm probably forgetting a million things, but I'm so excited for 2016 and for what's to come.  As for this blog I have no idea what's going to happen once school starts up again, but I can guarantee periodic updates with college application stuff, and maybe just random content.  But you can always check out my tumblr ;).

What's Happening to Glittery & Glam?

So you may be wondering(or maybe that's just me) what's happening to this blog this year.  Well, let me tell you.  Firstly I have no idea how consistently or inconsistently I'm going to be posting on here.  Out of all my relaunches I feel like this one has gone the worst(in perspective).  I had a really great vision in my head for a college journey blog, but I was not able to produce it.  So, sorry for that; however, I will continue to be posting things regarding my college journey, especially with my competition of my last college application.

I think that this blog might go back to what it was meant to be, a place to express my thoughts and overall craziness.  I hope you find it entertaining!

For this week though, there is lots to come.  I have a few posts already scheduled to go up, so we will see how that goes.  Thank you to anyone that has been reading(lol like anyone reads this).

Omigod I can't believe it's 2016.  I can't believe that I'm graduating high school this year.  It's all so crazy.

One of the best things to do at the beginning of the year is to reflect and make goals for the year.  I wrote down all of my resolutions in a little pocket notebook that my best friend gave me for Christmas.  And it ended up being both resolutions, goals, and sort of a bucket list for the year.

My Recommended AP Prep Books

Firstly, Happy 2016!
And, oops I have not posted in so long.  But do not fear I have a great post right now!

So I was researching prep books for my AP exams this year when I realized that I have used AP prep books, and wanted to share them with you.

Also check out the schedule for the AP exams this year.  Better to freak out now, rather than later.  Unfortunately for me, I am taking four AP exams this year and they are in clumps.  I have two one after the other the first week, and vice-versa the second week.

Anyways, here's my list of experience.

Sophomore Year:
I took one AP: AP World History.  And unfortunately I got sick the week of the test, and on top of that was staying way too late after school to do run-throughs of the musical I was in that year.
I ordered the Princeton Review 2014 edition because my teacher recommended it.  
I recommend that you look else where for advice on this one.

Junior Year:
I took three AP's: Art History, AP US History, and AP English Language & Composition.

Art History
I understand that they changed the test this year so that students only have to study 250 specific images, opposed to the oh you should probably learn around 500.  So I can give no advice for the new test, but I can tell you that I found the Barron's Prep Book to be very helpful.

US History
Last year was the first year of a new format.  Unfortunately the AP US History test was the day after the Art History test, and I felt way more comfortable with APUSH, so I mainly studied for Art History.  However, the week before I had my APUSH final which was an old APUSH practice test, and for that I read this.  (sorry I couldn't find I better link, my APUSH teacher had sent everyone the file).  It's a good overview of everything, and helps to jog your memory.

English Language & Composition
This was my last exam.  I had taken multiple practice and mock tests, and I felt that my teacher had prepped us pretty well.  So I just read a little bit of the Princeton Review and CliffsAP to help me more with the reading section.  I would probably refer to college confidential for a better review of the two books.
