First Semester Recap

Tumblr Source: maisonsblanches
Hello all!

I have survived my first semester at Cal!  I realized that I was basically MIA throughout the entire semester, so I decided to do a little recap of the entire semester.  Enjoy!

The week/night before move in day: Around August 20
I was not good at packing, I think I explained this here.  Anyways, my parents and I drove up north the day before move-in day and we stayed in Dublin I believe.  I had a very hard time sleeping, I hardly got any sleep, I think it was all of the anxiety.  Anyways, we drove an hour further north to get to Berkeley after having a lovely hotel continental breakfast(I had an afternoon move-in time).  I met my roommates and we took a roommate picture(it was all very awkward).

The First Day of School:
I had a very busy first day of school.  I was waitlisted on two classes and wanted to audition for a theatre class.  I thought that I had to go to my math discussion, so I woke up at 7am and while I was eating breakfast I checked my email to see that discussion was cancelled.  But all was well because I had an astronomy discussion at 9.  I also went to a CogSci lecture for a class I ended up dropping, and then to my theatre audition.  Then I went to Crossroads for lunch, and then back to campus for my math and astronomy lecture.  I was exhausted by the end of the day so I went to bed at 10, and did not do my math homework for the day.

Study Situation:
So I mostly studied in my room, until I found the north reading room(ironically by mistake).  BTW the North Reading room became a daily stop eventually(it took a little while).

The North Reading Room, isn't it pretty?
I really liked it because it had a nice atmosphere, large tables, and always available seats.  I also liked the other reading room in Doe/Bancroft which had an absolutely gorgeous ceiling.
It's gorgeous you guys

The tables are darling here as well
It's just so nice
Of course I also found this library by mistake, but I owe it tons.  I wrote a lot of my comp lit essays in  there.  Also during dead week, knowing of nice libraries that aren't that crowded is very important.

Clubs:
I got an interview for this one consulting club on campus, and probably did really badly in the case interview, but I wouldn't know because I didn't know what a case interview was until I was there.  Btws, I'm not in the club.  I did however join the skating team(club sport), and that's basically the only thing that I'm involved in on campus.

Foods:
Expectations: Oatmeal and lemon water for breakfast.
Reality: Trader Joe's Granola and Almond milk for breakfast
Yeah, I was super optimistic and though that I was going to make oatmeal every morning, obviously that did not end up working out.  I was always the first one up, and eventually I didn't even have time to eat breakfast in the room in the morning.  At the beginning of the semester I always got a hummus wrap at GBC, but it never filled me up, so I switched to a burrito bowl with lettuce, brown rice, beans, and guac.  At first I got pico de gillo, but that was too spicy for me.  When I was starting to run out of meal points at the end of the semester, I did without the guac.  Dinner was usually at Crossroads, but toward the end of the semester one of my roommates and I made the trek over to Cafe 3 for shorter lines, less crowdedness, and better quality food.

GBC, or Golden Bear Cafe

Cafe 3, it looks super fancy in this pic
Recap:  I did okay, I didn't fail anything, my GPA isn't that horrible.  I hated my astronomy class that's supposed to be a famous Berkeley class.  I loved my theatre 10 class, I learned so much.  I discovered parts of campus mostly by mistake.  I drank a lot(too much) boba.  And I visited Trader Joes a lot.  Here's to a good second semester!

GG

Winter Time ~

Tumblr Source: cest-ce-que-cest
Hello!

It's been a long time since I last posted.  I'm home now, and I have survived my first semester at Berkeley(whoot whoot).  It's so nice to be back in LA for the holidays.  Hopefully I can keep these blogs a little more updated, and maybe even share a few of my stories from college.  I'm looking forward to the holiday season, and to go christmas shopping tomorrow morning.  Take care!

Ideas

Tumblr Source: stylebychristie
Dear all,

This weekend I had a lot of ideas come to my head.  First I sort of figured out what my back-up major to my totally unstable current capped major was going to be.  I guess I'm now going to take sociology next semester.  I was inspired by one of the girl's on the figure skating team's bios.  It says that she's a sociology major with a focus in marketing and entrepreneurship, which is basically business(in my mind).  So yeah, I guess I'm doing sociology now.

Then because I am currently really bored, because everything I want to work on right now I can't(due to circumstances on which I have to rely on other people for).  I decided to go on reality steve and look at the initial reveals of the guys on Jojo's season.  Then I moved on to the girls on Ben's season.  I already knew that Lauren B. used to be a flight attendant, but I did not know that she also had a B.A. in Business Management(aka what I'm sort of kinda of looking towards pursuing).  I was like wow, I could do that.  That's when I realized that I could do that.  I could become a flight attendant after college.

On another note, I am coming home for Thanksgiving, and I am so excited.  The other day when my grandmother called me, and told me that she wished I was coming home for Thanksgiving, I said the same thing.  And then today I get a phone call from my parents asking if I want to come home.  Apparently my grandmother had been calling my parents and relaying this information to them.

Anyways yeah, this was kind of random, but I really felt the urge to make a blog post about it.  Until next time, wish me luck with this week.

Xoxo,

GG

So I'm alive...

apparently Morrison Library(I've never been), Tumblr Source: punctilious
Good Morning Upper East Siders, I mean uhhh.....

So....oh yeah.  I'm aliveeeeeee.

So I started college a few months ago, and my last post was before I had even left for Berkeley.  And now I'm more than halfway through my first semester.  I was also reading through my blog, and I realized that I forgot to tell you guys(probs just me) some stuff over the summer, but oh well, maybe I'll post later, but it's completely irrelevant at the moment,

I just went on tumblr for like the first time since I got here, so that says a lot about how much free time I have now, compared to when I was in high school.  I think I have adjusted well, living wise.  It doesn't feel weird, it feels normal.  Although I cannot wait to go back to LA for winter break.  I already had my first set of midterms over a month ago, and I have my last one on Monday.  Oh how time flies.

A little while ago I finally decide to go visit the libraries, and that was quite interesting.  Now you can expect to find me in the North Reading room after my classes, or during my long break.

Oh my god how life has changed.  I even had my Phase 1 for next semester yesterday.  I remember when I was freaking out for my Phase 1 before CalSo.  And just a heads up, it's just as stressful!

I still have an assignment to do, and a play to read for tomorrow, but this felt like a good time to post a little update to my beloved little blog.  I actually went on here for some inspiration for my assignment, but I had a sudden urge to add some new content.  Hopefully I can write some new content this weekend all about my experiences so far here at Cal.

And to the high school seniors applying to colleges this month (I'm looking at you UC applicants) good luck!  And may the odds be ever in your favor.

Oh dear GG, how I have missed you...

xoxo,

GG

Tumblr Source: dailyartspace
Happy Friday!

I am moving out today, and there is all the emotions: relief, sadness, happiness...  Needless to say I do not like packing.  Anyways, my Tumblr feed was really nice to me today, so this friday folio was very easy to put together, luckily.  Enjoy!

What I Did This Summer

Tumblr Source: icydong
Hello!

As my summer break is coming to a close, I thought that I should reflect on what I did this summer.

Summer Bucket List Cross-offs

I went to downtown(LA)
I learned how to type(correctly)
I finally got my drivers license
I went to California Donuts
Maple Bacon, Matcha Green Tea, Blueberry Toast Crunch, Snickers Bar, Panda, Nutella Banana Cronut

I went to Larchmont
I caught up on the Bachelorette

Other

I relaunched this blog(again)

So maybe not the most productive summer, but more productive than the last few years for sure, and in different ways.  This summer was most definitely the calm before the storm.  I hope to keep you updated on my college life.

xx,

Emily

Water Wednesday

Tumblr Source: study-harder
Hello!

For this weeks installment of "Water Wednesday" I want to talk about drinking water.  Just do it.  Kendall Jenner says that her best beauty secret is to drink water.

If you can't tell I'm quite overwhelmed right now.  Packing and not knowing what you are going to do next wee can be quite stressful.

Sorry for this very sad water wednesday.

xx,

Emily

Lust List: Phone Cases

IG: milkywaycases
Hello!

There are so many cute and fashionable phone cases on the market these days, the selection can become overwhelming at times.  I love seeing which cases celebs use since there are so many different options.  Here are some phone cases that I have currently been lusting after.

Cute and Quirky

This case is super fun, and I love how its clear so that you can still see the beautiful metallic color of the phone.  Plus it has watermelon, pineapples, and donuts on it.  What's not to love?

Fun fact: I was deeply considering getting this case when I first got my phone, but I ended up getting this one.  I love how sparkly this case is!

Floral and Fauna
Ted Baker London 'Salso', Nordstrom
This case is super preppy and fun, so perfect for back to school!  The gold label gives it a luxe feel.

Luxe
Zero Gravity Rose Gold Moonlight Case, Urban Outfitters
I love the pearl lunar cycle against the metal rose gold background on this case.

Fashionable and Functional
Bloomingdales
When I saw this I thought it was so cute and so smart!  I love the play on the classic, always recognizable Bloomingdales bag.

Outrageously Amazing
ashlyn'd Transparent iPhone 6 Case w/ Fur Pompom, Bergdorf Goodman
Oversized pompom? Check. Tassel? Check. Trendy? Double check!  I mean, why not just attach a pompom and a tassel to your phone.  I love this case.

Also Bendel's has the cutest phone cases.  So many cases, so little time...

Packing For College

Tumblr Source: minimalclassy
Hello!

Over the past couple of weeks I have been slowly packing for college.  Currently my suitcase only has my sweaters and long-sleeved shirts, but I'm working on it.  I leave this Friday, so there is not much time left.

My suitcase- lots of sweaters
I also have a fully stocked shower caddy, some school supplies set aside, and most of my bedding.  This week I get to hectically get together the rest of my stuff.  Hopefully I don't forget anything.

There are so many "college packing lists" floating around the internet, and honestly, most of them are way too comprehensive.  Like of course I'm going to bring pajamas, and where in the world am I going to put a chair.  So I have created a short list of things I'm actually going to need, that are often looked over.

Short College Packing List

1. Combination Lock(for bathroom and gym lockers)
2. Water Bottle(refillable of course)
3. Staple Remover(because you won't forget the stapler)
4. Medicines(I always forget whenever I pack)
5. Robe(for walking to and from the shower)

There are about five million lists online, but I feel like these are some of the things people might actually forget.  I hope I can finish packing soon,  I feel like my list only gets longer day by day.

xx,

Emily

Larchmont Bungalow

Our spread at Bungalow.
Last week my mom and I drove down to Larchmont, or more specifically Windsor Square.  We had wanted to get brunch, so the night before I researched all of the brunches and decided upon Larchmont Bungalow.  Bungalow(as it was referred to by various shopkeepers) is a cute little restaurant on the end of Windsor Square.  There is plenty of seating, whether it be inside, on Larchmont, or in the outdoor covered patio in the back.

We looked over the menu(or my mom did, since I had already decided the night before) and went up to the counter to order.  My mom ordered the garden omelet with fruit and I ordered the Quinoa Blueberry Pancakes.  We also both ordered Soy Moroccan Iced Coffees(a specialty! essentially a latte with mocha syrup and cinnamon).  We then got our number and were instructed to wait for our drinks on the other side of the case(filled with cakes and pastries!)  After we got our drinks we went to go scope out a place to sit, thankfully we had gone at 10 on a weekday, so finding a place to sit was not that hard, there are just many options.  Our food arrived a little while after and of course I had to take a picture(above).

The Moroccan Iced Coffee was good, but nothing special.  It was basically a toned down mocha with cinnamon.  I really enjoyed my pancakes, even though I only ate one.  They don't really need syrup and are really too sweet with syrup, but just fine on their own.  I enjoyed the candied walnuts in the pancakes, the candied part had sort of melted and combined with the pancake.  My mom tried my pancakes, but claimed that they were "too healthy" for her.  She liked her omelet, and I liked the pot of jam that came with her toast, so much that I brought it home along with my two uneaten pancakes. In fact I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with the jam today for lunch.

When we were walking around(and shopping) in Larchmont, many people took notice of my pancakes, even a girl that had someone taking a picture of her with her ice cream in front of Salt & Straw.

Yesterday I finally finished my pancakes, and it was bittersweet(its okay to get attached to a pancake.)  When I get back from college I want to go back and get some more.

Brunching was fun!  Where did you have a good brunch?

Emily

Water(melon) Wednesday

Tumblr Source: danieladowd
Hello!

Yes, I'm bringing back all of the series'.  In this weeks edition of "Water Wednesday" I want to talk about watermelon.  I always associated watermelon with summer, until I learned about Coachella and saw pictures of girls holding up huge slices of watermelon, so now Coachella and watermelon sort of go hand in hand.

only at Coachella..., IG: sam_dameshek
Anyways, my mom got a watermelon a week ago and I cut into it a few days ago and omigod I forgot how good watermelon is.  First of all, I was very proud of myself for cutting into the watermelon without chopping my arm off.  And so what the two halves were totally uneven, the watermelon still tasted amazing.
I chopped up some watermelon for a snack, it was delicious!

Sadly today my mom finished the watermelon, so I am currently watermelon-less, but that's okay she got some mangoes at the store today so I can eat those when they ripen!

I tried so hard and for so long to get a "pretty" shot of the watermelon slices, but ultimately failed.
Watermelons are one of my favorite summer fruits, along with peaches, see how to make a peach sparkling water here, and nectarines.  I also love watermelon juice which can easily be made by throwing a bunch of watermelon into a blender.  It is very refreshing and very summery.

What are your thoughts on watermelon?

Emily

Lust List: Chokers

similar style here, Tumblr Source: excluding
Hello!

Chokers have been trending for a while now, but I have finally jumped the bandwagon.  I was sold when I saw the dainty little ones that look like someone tied a bow around your neck.  I also like the dainty little sparkly ones(see above image).  Here are some of my favorites.

Bow
Baublebar "Whitley Choker", IG: shannonyoachum
I love the super delicate and feminine look of the delicate bow, it's so cute!  I sometimes like to just tie a ribbon around my neck to achieve a similar look.

Bow + Bling
Baublebar "Artemis Choker"
This choker is so pretty.  I like how the addition of a crystal floral choker actually makes it look a little bit edgy, but still totally girly!  I love this combination.

Metal
Forever 21 "Faux Stone Choker"
This choker is slightly thicker than most, and I love that you can let it rest slightly below your neck.  Sometimes chokers feel like they are choking you.  This is also super cute, I feel like you could wear it year round, even to Coachella!

Deluxe
Leith "Chain & Fringe Ribbon Choker",  Nordstrom
This is super edgy but I love the addition of the overlapping chain and the tassel!  So cute!  The medallions on the ribbon add a little bit of edge and glam.

Tiffany "Heart Tag Toggle Necklace"
I cannot leave out little Miss Woods, Elle.  I love Elle's Tiffany necklace, and although she's not really wearing it like a choker, I feel like you totally could.

What are your thoughts on the choker trend?

Emily
