Lust List: Handbags

look at that Chanel beauty, breakfast doesn't look bad either, IG: garypeppergirl
Hello!

Recently I have been looking around at handbags, mainly because I have finally come to accept that my purse is too small.  I went to Nordstrom and Bloomingdales recently, and had much fun looking around the handbag department. Here are some of the bags that I have been lusting after.

The Perfect Summer Bag

Kate Spade cedar street seahorses - small hayden print satchel, Nordstrom $278
I spotted this bag in Nordstrom and instantly fell in love!  It looks as cute on the shelf as it does on your arm.  Of course, this is not the most practical bag to buy, but if you can pull off seahorses year-round you go Glenn Coco!  I think that the solid black version of this bag would be a more practical option, but this bad is just so cute I had to include it in my lust list!

A nice fall piece that can be worn year-round

ALLSAINTS Freedom Slouchy Hobo, Bloomingdales $248
When my mom and I were perusing through all of the handbags in Bloomingdales I saw her trying on this bag, so naturally I wanted to try it on as well.  It is really cute, it's quite large, but the bag itself is not that heavy, so it's good if you have to carry around a lot of stuff.

Preppy School Chic Satchel
Ted Baker London Faux Leather Satchel, Nordstrom $130.90*
Note: Unfortunately this satchel is no longer available, this and this are similar.
I saw this bag online when I was looking at the handbags in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  I think it looks super cute, and I love that it can be worn on your shoulder or on your arm.  It also sort of reminds me of the purse Taylor Swift often wears(the black Dolce & Gabbana top handle purse.)  And it's vegan friendly as well!
*after sale(8/8) $219
My Dream Bag

Chloe Marcie Medium Satchel Bag in Blush Nude, Neiman Marcus $1,990
I have been lusting after this bag since I was in 7th grade I think.  I just thought that it was so pretty, and I still think that it is gorgeous.  If I ever was to majorly splurge on a handbag it would be this one.  But that definitely won't be for awhile considering it costs more than a laptop, not to mention that I'm going to be a broke college student for the next few years.

If I Was an Upper East Side Princess

Sakura Rose Birkin, Portero $21,995,  IG: dorothywang
I saw this beauty on Dorothy Wang's instagram and thought, "Wow, I wonder how much that thing costs?"  Sure enough I found my answer in the comments, a cool 22k, well this girl is on Rich Kids of Beverly Hills.  But if I was Blair Waldorf or Serena van der Woodsen I would totally get it, I mean it's gorgeous.

So many bags to lust after, so little time...  What bags are you lusting after at the moment?

xx,

Emily

My College Orientation Experience

The view outside of my dorm
Hello!

Although I went to CalSO(Cal Summer Orientation) three weeks ago, I thought that I would still write a post on my experience.

My dad and I flew into Oakland the night before my orientation and took BART to Berkeley.  We were staying a little ways from campus, so we had dinner in West Berkeley at La Mission.  I got the Grande Veggie Taco, and omigod you guys it was really big, I had to eat it with a fork.  Overall I thought that it was pretty good, although something in it was quite spicy(but then again I'm a wimp when it comes to spice.)  I think my dad got the mole enchiladas.  After dinner we walked back to the hotel and looked over my self-proposed schedule again.

The next morning we had to wake up early so that we could make the half-hour trek over to Unit 3 for check-in.  When we finally arrived at Unit 3, I noticed that I was the only one with a suitcase(I had just gotten a suitcase and I flew on a plane), so yeah don't bring a suitcase to orientation I guess.  But seriously some of these people only had a backpack, like what, anyways a small tote or duffel bag should do.  I checked in, got my room key, and headed up to my dorm.  Surprisingly, I was the first one there so I decided to take the bunk above the two desks.  Soon after one of my roommates walked in the door so we went down to breakfast together.  We met a girl along the way and we all entered Cafe 3 the wrong way, when we finally figured out the right way to enter I preceded to look for oatmeal, thought that I had located the oatmeal, got a bowl, opened the lid to discover maple syrup(oops), so I just settled for Honey Nut Cheerios(#adult).

The rest of the day consisted of many presentations, some getting to know you games, lunch, and more presentations.  We also got to meet our academic advisor and work on our schedules.  Then we had a dinner way fancier than anything they would actually serve in the dinning hall(like they serve ahi tuna poke) and got a campus tour.  In between the two I went back to the dorm and took full advantage of being the only one in the room by taking a few snaps of the view.  Then we did this defying stereotypes activity and then there was a night rally and they made us do the time warp.  And then there were night activities.  Throughout all of this I had stuck with a group of girls from my CalSO group, but then I sort of lost them, so I decided to go cafe-hopping, which was really just free cookies or go to this restaurant area a block away.  The line for cookies was really long, so I decided to look for boba.  Long story short I didn't get anything and ended up in my dorm room by 10, and to my avail I was the first one back.  My roommate and I planned to go to workshops(optional) in the morning.  We finally met our other roommate as I was about to fall asleep.

I had to take a picture of the view from the dorm because, I mean, you can see the campanile
The next day I went to two workshops and the main reason of going to CalSO: going to your advising appointment to get your registration hold lifted.  Of course on the way to the L&S advising building I got lost, but that's okay I asked someone where it was and she nicely pointed it out to me.  After that I went down to the computer lab to register for classes, which took two seconds since I had already put everything in my shopping cart.  Then I went to another workshop and met up with my CalSO leader who so kindly took us to get free cookies at Pacific Cookie Company(they post the secret words on their Instagram.)  Unfortunately for me it was a Chocolate Mint Chip cookie, and I hate mint, but I was so hungry that I ate it, except for the mint it was really good.  Lastly there was yet another presentation and then we got our Cal ID cards and the On the Same Page book.  I then found my dad in the student union half asleep.

Before we took BART back to the Oakland Airport I wanted to get lunch, so we went to Smart Alec's since it was super close to campus and to Unit 3.  I got a half order of the sesame tofu salad with a slice of wheat bread(I should have gotten cornbread, it has rave reviews on Yelp.)  It was quite big for a half order, I thought that it was okay, the tofu was a little bit over cooked.  Then we walked to the BART station and flew home.

basically what I had for lunch, via Yelp
Overall I would say that my CalSO went pretty well.  I did not have the most amazing time ever, but I also didn't feel like it was torturous.  I think everyone will have a different experience.  I did not become super close with anyone, nor did I make any enemies.  It was successful in the sense that I learned more about all of the resources on campus, and that I registered for classes.  But I don't think I made any amazing friendships.  My advice to other people attending college orientation is to be very open-minded, talk to people, and take advantage of all of the information you can get.  And good luck to you!

Cheers!

Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde
Omigod you guys!

It's the fifteen year anniversary of the gift to the world that is Legally Blonde.  I was planning on posting about my Gossip Girl obsession, but that can wait until another day, because I need to pay homage to the inspiration of the most amazing creation of them all: Legally Blonde- The Musical.  But that deserves a whole individualized post, so yes, the movie that started it all.

Elle in her Harvard admissions video essay...(she can use legal jargon in everyday life)
This movie is so wonderful.  Elle is such an empowered and motivated person, she is very inspirational to many people, including myself.  I love how Legally Blonde has become iconic, if I ever have kids you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm showing them Legally Blonde.

Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods
Reese Witherspoon who portrayed Elle in the movie payed homage to the film on Instagram, doing the infamous bend and snap(what else?), actually there is something else. She also went through all of her costumes from the movie on her snapchat(snapsbyreese)!  Use the hashtag #LegallyBlonde15 on social media to honor the 15th anniversary of Legally Blonde!

Elle teaching the bend and snap to Paulette and others in the hair salon
But seriously, I absolutely cannot believe that it has been fifteen years since Legally Blonde first came out.  It has truly inspired a generation, and will hopefully continue to inspire for generations to come.

Thank you Legally Blonde!  Like you have done for many, you have inspired me to be a better person, and to do well on AP tests(more info on that to come).

How has Legally Blonde changed you?

xx,

Emily

Elle in the courtroom
Check out my post on Elle(aka my role model) here!  Full-out, head-on dedicated post to Legally Blonde- The Musical (hopefully) coming soon!  Also btws, Legally Blonde(1 & 2) are on Netflix(just thought that you should know that...) :)

Typing "School"

Tumblr Source: unbna
Hello!
So, as many of you know I have made it a goal to learn how to type correctly this summer.  I have gotten much better at typing and can now type all the letters without looking down at the keyboard.

At first I used some random website that was sort of self-guided, but it didn't work that well for me.  A few days later when I was talking to a friend who was also coincidentally learning how to type, she mentioned that she was using ratatype, and I have been using it ever since.  I am currently on lesson twelve(of fifteen), so I'm almost done.  After I finish all of the levels I think I'm going to copy books or something into the computer to get more practice.  Hopefully I'll be able to type at an adequate speed before college starts.

Are you trying to learn a new skill this summer?

Emily
